New at Lumens: Serge Mouille
Serge Mouille’s mid-century modern designs are icons of the period and just as relevant more than half a century later. He developed his spare aesthetic in response to a flood of designs on the market in the 1950s that he found to be overcomplicated. These minimalist, elegant creations are timelessly modern, including the beloved three-arm lighting designs.
Take FLOS outside
On the success of his IC Light collection, FLOS tapped designer Michael Anastassiades to develop an outdoor-safe version of the popular floor lamp. The design is already a classic, made even more versatile with updated materials and waterproofing to let this floor lamp shine wherever you like.
New from Hinkley
Hinkley is a family business that's been creating lighting designs for nearly a century. This year, the company unveiled a line of on-trend ceiling fans with all the smart features and efficiency we love to see in fan design. One of our favorites is the new Artiste; a transitional design with a modern DC motor and integrated LED light that makes this a great choice for many homes.
Mixed materials make good
Hudson Valley Lighting is known for its vintage reproduction, transitional and chic modern lighting designs. The new Sands Point Pendant skillfully combines an historic style with a modern juxtaposition of fine finishes for a contemporary look that suits many styles like modern farmhouse, coastal contemporary and more.
Whimsical, but make it modern
With a primary palette, a stripped-back linear design and an abstract-Modernist interpretation of butterfly's wings, Sonneman has channeled avant-garde titans Mondrian and Miró into this unusual iteration on a swag pendant. Artistically speaking, there's a lot going on; from the above-mentioned artists and movements to the mid-century-esque mobile design itself—we just think it's one fantastic modern look.
Man & Machine
Kartell's mastery of plastics is already well known, but the dedication this Italian design giant has for sustainability and next-level innovation keeps our attention year after year. The A.I. Side Chair is the first chair created completely using artificial intelligence, combining three years of designer Philippe Starck's ideas and sketches into an ultimately brand-new and comfortable design. And what's more, it's made of 100% recycled material.
New from Modloft
Simplicity isn't always so simple, but Modloft makes it look so easy. The new Broadway Sectional Sofa is impeccably designed to be a versatile and comfortable lounging sofa, no matter your relaxing style. The chaise-style sofa has stayed popular over the last many years, but Broadway extends this section to mirror the length of the standard sofa cushion side. The result is symmetric simplicity that's easy on eyes and bodies.
Lounging for all weather
Designed by the duo Foersom & Hiort-Lorenzen MDD, Cane-line's new Curve Outdoor Lounge Chair embodies all the graceful style of the original indoor Rattan version, but in materials that can withstand any weather. The proprietary material holds up to UV rays and heat while the design looks great summer after summer.
Italian by design
Kartell draws upon the genius of its Italian pedigree with a stable of designers who can invoke the little details of what makes their homeland special. Fabio Novembre's Trullo Storage Container evokes the architecture of southern Italy with a pointed top like the roofs found in the village of Alberobello, near his hometown.
Chilewich rocks the floor
A tribute to Bauhaus design, Heddle by Chilewich was launched one hundred years after the founding of the Bauhaus school. We love the subtle striping of this weave in the new Pebble color; a muted mix of browns and beiges that cement this selection as a new neutral. Plus, Chilewich's proprietary woven material is easy to clean, anti-microbial and resists mold and mildew indoors and out.
