The George Kovacs StoryGeorge Kovacs was born 1926 in Vienna, Austria. After moving to the US, Kovacs was enticed in 1954 to market J.T. Kalmar lamps. Inspired by the success of that endeavor--and the observed popularity of such contemporary lighting--Kovacs expanded his lighting import and design business (with locations throughout New York). Throughout the 1950s, '60s and '70s, George Kovacs became a renowned lighting designer and collaborator. In 2000, Kovacs sold his company name to the Minka Group, continuing to design lighting for the company until his death in 2007. Today, the Minka Group offers Kovacs' celebrated assortment of pendants, chandeliers, track lighting fixtures, bath and vanity lights, sconces, portable floor and table lamps, and outdoor lighting.
